Litigation & Employment Attorney

Janice V. Arellano concentrates her practice in the areas of labor & employment, education, public entity law, tort claim defense, and civil rights. She has experience drafting pleadings, motions, petitions, interrogatories, and trial materials for cases defending private and public entities in state and federal court, and before the Office of Administrative Law. Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, Janice worked as an associate at a highly regarded New Jersey-based insurance defense firm. Janice also served as law clerk for the Honorable Kevin M. Shanahan in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division-Family Part, in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. While Janice earned her law degree, she was a Law and Public Policy Scholar and obtained a Certificate in Trial Advocacy and Litigation. Janice’s law and policy article, “Don’t Leave United States Behind: Problems with the Existing Family and Medical Leave Act, and Alternatives to Enhance the Employee Work-Family Relationship in the 21st Century” was published in the Journal of Workplace Rights, SAGE Open, April-June 1-13 (2015). She also completed judicial internships with the Honorable Norma L. Shapiro and the Honorable M. Faith Angell of the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and was a summer law clerk at the Federal Trade Commission-Bureau of Consumer Protection in Washington, D.C. She also represented indigent clients through the Temple Legal Aid Family Litigation clinical program and supported lobbying efforts as a Frankel Legislative Fellow for the ACLU of PA. Arellano was a Judge William M. Marutani Fellow and 2011 Hispanic Bar Association of PA Scholarship Recipient. Before law school, Janice was a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Public Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of Justice-Civil Rights Division and the National Education Association. Additionally, she worked in public education as a teacher for three years under the auspices of Teach for America in West Philadelphia.
