Justin is an intellectual property attorney focused on bringing practical and value laden solutions to clients with intellectual property needs. He assists clients in all areas of intellectual property, including patenting inventions, litigating infringement disputes, negotiating intellectual property agreements, advising on trademarks, copyrights, and trade secret protection, and assisting with open source software licensing. Justin’s clients include start-up companies and individuals, as well as more mature organizations. He works with each client to develop an intellectual property strategy tailored to their specific needs, focusing on intellectual property identification and acquisition strategies for those newer to IP and robust global protection strategies for others. In all cases, Justin uses his prior business management and consulting experience to help clients identify and pursue the most cost-effective solution to their intellectual property needs. He also helps reduce the uncertainty associated with development and protection of intellectual property and has created several fix-fee packages to help clients to get started on and to maintain an IP program that fits their budget and provides cost certainty. Justin’s patent work experience spans several technological disciplines, including alternative energy, clean technology, electrochemical, electromechanical devices and processes, chemical processes, nutraceuticals, power electronics design and monitoring, mechanical devices and processes, hydrocarbon refining processes, and computer hardware and software. Justin also proactively assists clients in development of global IP strategies and patent portfolio development. Prior to joining the firm, Justin worked at a prominent Burlington, Vermont law firm as an intellectual property attorney. Prior to law school, Justin worked for Independent Project Analysis, Inc. as a project management and implementation analyst for the oil and chemical industries and for McMaster-Carr Supply Company as an operations manager. Justin grew up on a farm in South Dakota and at the age of 13 began his migration east, first settling in Ohio, then Michigan, back to Ohio, and then for a brief stint in Washington, DC before settling down with his family in Vermont. Justin has two great kids, a supportive, smart, and inspirational wife, and a dog that’s not as bright as he’d like her to be, but she’s friendly enough.
