Employment & Commercial Litigation Attorney
Keya C. Denner devotes his practice to labor and employment law, executive compensation, and commercial litigation. Keya has extensive litigation experience representing management in matters ranging from breach of employment agreements and restrictive covenants to discrimination, disability, and wage and hour violations under federal and state laws. He also regularly handles discrimination matters before state and federal administrative agencies in New York and New Jersey. Much of Keya’s employment practice is devoted to counseling clients as to existing company policies and providing training with an eye towards avoiding litigation. He has expertise in guiding employers through difficult employee leave entitlement issues under both the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, mass layoffs under federal and state WARN statutes, and multi-state reductions in force. In addition, Keya regularly drafts company policies and handbooks, as well as employment agreements and restrictive covenants. In the field of traditional labor law, Keya advises clients during union organizing campaigns and represents clients in representation and unfair labor practice charge proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board. Keya also has experience in dealing with construction labor law issues, including those relating to state prevailing wage law. As a member of the firm’s Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits Group, Keya represents senior-level employees of both public and private companies in the negotiation of their employment packages and associated agreements at both the commencement of the employment relationship and at termination. Keya has successfully negotiated employment and severance packages for clients, including employment and post-employment compensation, confidentiality, non-compete, non-solicitation, and benefits packages. Outside of the employment arena, Keya represents several businesses in the health care industry, providing a wide range of litigation and counseling services. For nursing facility clients and hospitals, he regularly initiates guardianship actions for residents and patients in need. Keya was recognized by the New Jersey Law Journal as a 2017 New Leader of the Bar for his impressive accomplishments and great promise in the legal profession. For the past two years, he was selected for inclusion on the Employment & Labor list of New Jersey Rising Stars. Keya serves on the Board of Trustees of the Community Visiting Nurse Association where he is Chair of the By-Laws Committee and a member of the Personnel Committee. He is also co-host of the Somerset County Business Partnership’s Human Resources Roundtable Group and has been recently named Co-Chair of the Labor and Employment Committee of the Somerset County Bar Association. Keya is a former Emmy Award winning child actor and an avid musician.
